• Vikas Anand didn't just cast Pran in 'Azaad Desh Ke Gulam' (1990) — he wrote the entire script with Pran in mind. The role of the righteous lawyer was tailored to Pran's aging-hero phase, a gamble that paid off enough to greenlight two more films together.
• On the set of 'Lakshmanrekha' (1991), Pran would quietly rewrite his own dialogues in the margins of the script. Vikas Anand let him. He said Pran's instinct for rhythm was sharper than any writer's — so the final cut often used Pran's version over the original lines.
• Pran was 70 when they shot 'Laalchee' (1996). Vikas Anand insisted on shorter shooting days and personally drove Pran back to his bungalow every evening. No one else on the crew knew — Pran told a journalist years later that Anand treated him 'like a father, not a star.'
• Pran once told a trade magazine: 'Vikas Anand is the only director who never asked me to act younger. He let me be old on screen. That's why I did three films with him.'
