Raghava Lawrence, then a rising choreographer-turned-director, specifically cast him in Varushamellam Vasantham (2002) because he wanted a face that felt like 'everyone's uncle' — not a star comedian. Pandu later said Lawrence gave him his first proper comic role in years.
• In Kanchana 2 (2015), Lawrence wrote a scene where Pandu's character gets possessed by a ghost and dances. Pandu, who had never danced on screen before, spent two weeks learning Lawrence's signature jerky moves. Lawrence shot the scene in one take and kept it in the final cut.
• Between Varushamellam Vasantham and Kanchana 2, Pandu and Lawrence didn't speak for nearly a decade. They reconnected only when Lawrence called Pandu personally to offer the role in Kanchana 2 — Pandu later admitted he thought the call was a prank.
