• They first acted together in 'Kasiyatthirai' (1973) because the director, K. S. Gopalakrishnan, specifically wanted a fresh pair. Neither was a big star yet — the film was a gamble that paid off and got them noticed as a couple.
• In 'Sila Nerangalil Sila Manithargal' (1976), Lakshmi’s raw, emotional performance pushed Sreekanth to drop his usual polished style. He later admitted she made him act with his eyes instead of his dialogue delivery.
