• Their first film together, Archanai Pookal (1982), almost didn't happen. Director R. Selvaraj wanted a bigger star for the male lead, but Mohan insisted on casting Vaagai Chandrasekar after seeing him in a stage play. He told the director: 'If he's not in it, I'm out.'
• In Kunguma Chimil (1985), Vaagai Chandrasekar played the comic sidekick who constantly one-upped Mohan's straight-laced hero. The trick was that Vaagai would improvise punchlines on set, and Mohan would react genuinely — no retakes. That raw laugh is why the film still works.
• Ninaikka Therindha Manamey (1987) — which got a 1/10 rating from critics — was the film that killed the duo's commercial run. After its disastrous release, no producer would fund another project with both of them. Their fourth film, Sondham Padhinaru (1989), was made only because Mohan personally guaranteed the budget.
• During the shoot of Archanai Pookal, Vaagai Chandrasekar was struggling financially and often slept on the sets. Mohan found out, quietly paid for his room at a lodge, and never told anyone. Vaagai only revealed this in a 2019 interview, saying 'He saved my dignity without making me feel small.'
