• For 'Archanai Pookal' (1982), director R. Selvaraj was struggling to find a female lead who could play a village belle with raw emotion. Manorama, already a star, recommended Vaagai Chandrasekar after seeing him in a stage play. She told the director, 'He has the eyes for this role.' That recommendation got him his first major break.
• On the sets of 'Sondham Padhinaru' (1989), Manorama would deliberately flub her lines in the first take to make Vaagai Chandrasekar laugh. She said it loosened him up. He later admitted that her playful teasing forced him to stay on his toes and sharpened his comic timing.
• After 'Seeman' (1994) wrapped, Manorama gifted Vaagai Chandrasekar a silver ring. She told him it was for luck. He still wears it to this day during every film shoot, even though they never worked together again.
• Vaagai Chandrasekar once said in a 2017 interview: 'Manorama akka didn't just act with me. She taught me how to listen on screen. Before her, I was only reacting. She showed me that silence can be louder than dialogue.'
• The success of 'Archanai Pookal' (1982) directly led to director R. Selvaraj casting the same pair again in 'Sondham Padhinaru' (1989). That film's family drama template was later copied by at least three low-budget Tamil TV serials in the early 2000s.
