• Jayaram and Goundamani first shared screen space in 'Nila' (1994) because director A. C. Tirulokchandar wanted a fresh comic duo. Goundamani was already a star comedian, but Jayaram was still finding his footing in Tamil. The director bet on their contrasting energies — Jayaram's soft-spoken charm against Goundamani's explosive timing — and it clicked so well that they were paired again within a year.
• In 'Murai Maman' (1995), Goundamani deliberately slowed down his delivery to match Jayaram's more measured rhythm. Jayaram later said in an interview that Goundamani would pause mid-sentence to let him react, then pounce back with a punchline. That push-and-pull made their scenes feel like a tennis rally — one sets, the other smashes.
• During the shoot of 'Periya Idathu Maapillai' (1997), Goundamani would quietly rewrite his own lines on set to give Jayaram more to do.
