• For Raja Kaiya Vacha (1990), Suresh Krishna was a debutant director. Charlie was already a known comedian. Charlie agreed to do the film only after Suresh Krishna narrated the full script to him at his home in Kodambakkam — a rare move for a newcomer.
• In Vedan (1993), Suresh Krishna gave Charlie a rare non-comic role — a serious, brooding character. Charlie later said that Suresh Krishna was the first director who trusted him to act without a single punchline.
• Sangamam (1999) was the film that made both of them a hot pairing in Tamil cinema. It directly led to Suresh Krishna casting Charlie in his next big hit, Dhill (2001), which launched Vikram as a mainstream action star.
