• Umesh Mehra cast Rekha in 'Jaal' (1986) after she specifically asked to work with him. She had seen his earlier action films and wanted to try that space. He was surprised — she was known for glamour, not guns.
• On the set of 'Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi' (1996), Rekha would quietly rewrite her own lines in Hindi to make them punchier. Umesh Mehra let her do it because he said she understood the mass audience better than he did.
• After 'Qila' (1998) flopped hard, Rekha and Umesh Mehra never spoke again. No public fight, no statement — just silence. She stopped taking his calls. He later told a trade journal he still didn't know why.
• Umesh Mehra once said about Rekha: 'She doesn't act. She becomes. On 'Jaal', I'd just set up the camera and let her go. She'd give me three different versions of the same scene — and all three were better than what I'd written.'
• The only reason 'Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi' (1996) exists is because Rekha agreed to do a cameo. That cameo convinced the producers to greenlight the full film — which then launched Akshay Kumar as a mainstream action hero.
