Partnership facts

• Prabhu was still a newcomer when director Gangai Amaran cast him opposite Viji in 'Kozhi Koovudhu' (1982). Viji was already a known face, and her pairing with a debutant hero was a gamble that paid off — the film ran for over 100 days.
• In 'Raja Veetu Kannukutti' (1984), Viji’s comic timing pushed Prabhu to loosen up. He later admitted she made him stop overthinking his dialogue delivery — she’d just react naturally, and he had to keep up.
• Prabhu and Viji stayed in touch long after their films ended. When Viji passed away in 2015, Prabhu was one of the first actors to visit her family — he told press she was 'like family' and that he owed his early confidence to her.
• Prabhu once said in a 2014 interview: 'Viji akka made me feel like I’d been acting for ten years. She never treated me like a newcomer — she treated me like a co-star.'
• Their third film 'Raja Nee Vaazhga' (1986) was the first Tamil film to have a female-centric climax where the heroine saves the hero — a direct influence on later films like 'Chinna Gounder' (1992) which also flipped the damsel-in-distress trope.
