Partnership facts

• Guru Sishyan (1988) was supposed to star a different heroine. Gouthami was a last-minute replacement after the original actress walked out. That film became their first hit together.
• In Pillaikkaga (1989), Prabhu deliberately slowed down his comic timing to match Gouthami's natural rhythm. He told the director she needed space to breathe between punchlines. The scene where she fumbles with a sari pallu became a template for their later comedies.
• Raja Kaiya Vacha (1990) directly inspired the 1996 Telugu hit 'Pelli Sandadi'. The producer saw their playful chemistry in the wedding song sequence and remade the entire film's tone around that energy.
• During Ratha Dhanam (1988), Prabhu and Gouthami shared the same makeup van for six weeks. They had a standing rule: no talking about work after 6 PM. They'd just eat biryani and listen to Ilaiyaraaja cassettes.
• Gouthami once said in a 1999 interview: 'Prabhu never let me feel like a newcomer. He'd whisper the next line if I forgot it, but make it look like he was just adjusting his dhoti.'
