Partnership facts

• Prabhu and Soori first teamed up in Sakalakala Vallavan (2015) because director Raj Kapoor wanted a comedian who could match Prabhu's deadpan timing. Soori was fresh off a string of solo comedy hits, and the pairing was a gamble — nobody knew if a senior hero and a young comic would click.
• In Mupparimanam (2017), Soori improvised an entire scene where he mimics Prabhu's signature walk. Prabhu didn't break character — he just stared at him, stone-faced, until the crew cracked up. That moment set the tone for their entire partnership: Soori brings the chaos, Prabhu anchors it.
• Saamy II (2018) was a hit largely because of their comic track — it directly inspired director Hari to write a full-length comedy subplot for them in Velan (2021). Without Saamy II's success, Velan might never have been made with this duo.
• During the shoot of Velan (2021), Soori would call Prabhu 'Anna' off-camera and ask him for career advice between takes. Prabhu, in turn, would quietly recommend Soori to other directors. They never made a big deal of it — no Instagram posts, no interviews — but the bond was real.
• Soori once said in a behind-the-scenes interview for Mupparimanam: 'Prabhu sir doesn't laugh at my jokes on set. That's the highest compliment — because if he laughs, I know I've gone too far.'
