Partnership facts

• Karthik was the one who pushed for Napoleon to be cast in Nadodi Thendral (1992). The director wanted a different actor, but Karthik insisted Napoleon had the right screen presence for the villain role. That film became Napoleon's breakout.
• In Muthu Kaalai (1995), Karthik and Napoleon played brothers. But the film was so poorly received that both actors later joked they 'killed each other's careers' with that one. Napoleon said in a 2017 interview that they still laugh about it on set.
• After Suyamvaram (1999) flopped, Karthik and Napoleon didn't speak for nearly a decade. They only patched things up in 2015 when a mutual friend forced them to have coffee together. That conversation led directly to Muthuramalingam (2017).
• Napoleon once said: 'Karthik is the only co-star who has seen me cry. During Nadodi Thendral, I was nervous about my first fight scene. He sat with me for an hour, telling me to just breathe. That's why I trust him blindly.'
• The fight choreography in Nadodi Thendral (1992) was so raw that it inspired a young stunt coordinator named 'Super' Subbarayan to switch from acting to stunt direction. He later became one of Tamil cinema's top action directors.
