Partnership facts

• John Vijay and Riythvika first met on the sets of Kabali (2016), but they didn't share a single scene together. The director Pa. Ranjith cast them in separate tracks — John played a gangster, Riythvika played a social worker. They only properly acted opposite each other in their next film, Azhagu Kutti Chellam (2016), which released the same year.
• In Azhagu Kutti Chellam (2016), John Vijay deliberately slowed down his usual rapid-fire dialogue delivery to match Riythvika's more measured, naturalistic rhythm. He later told a behind-the-scenes crew member that he had to 'unlearn his stage acting' to let her grounded performance lead the emotional scenes.
• During the shoot of 4 Sorry (2021), John Vijay and Riythvika developed a ritual: before every emotional scene, they would sit silently for two minutes, holding opposite ends of a dupatta. Riythvika said it helped them sync their breathing and emotional state without a single word of rehearsal.
• Their only film that didn't flop — Kabali (2016) — was also the one where they never shared screen space. The other two films (Azhagu Kutti Chellam and 4 Sorry) were small-budget dramas that together earned less than 2 crores at the box office. No director has cast them together since 2021.
