• For 'Enakkul Oruvan', director Udayabanu Maheshwaran was initially looking for a different actor for the lead. Naren read the script and called him directly, saying he had to play that role. Maheshwaran later admitted Naren's conviction changed the film's entire tone.
• In 'Poriyaalan', Maheshwaran deliberately kept Naren's dialogue sparse in the first half. He wanted Naren's eyes and body language to carry the tension. Naren later said that restraint forced him to find a quieter, more dangerous side to his performance.
• The success of 'Enakkul Oruvan' directly led to Maheshwaran getting the green light for his next project, 'Are You Ok Baby?'. Naren agreed to a smaller role in that film just to help Maheshwaran secure the budget. Without that gesture, the 2023 film might not have been made.
• During the shoot of 'Poriyaalan', Naren and Maheshwaran shared a room in a budget lodge for three weeks. They would stay up after pack-up, rewriting scenes on a notepad. Maheshwaran still keeps that notepad in his desk drawer.
• Maheshwaran once said in an interview: 'Naren is the only actor who can make my silences speak. He doesn't ask me why a scene is written a certain way — he just finds the truth in it.'
