• Sarath Kumar was already a star when he agreed to do Vasanthakala Paravai (1991) with debutant director Pavithran. Pavithran had to convince Sarath that a newcomer could handle a big hero — and Sarath took the risk based on one narration session.
• On the sets of Suriyan (1992), Pavithran realized Sarath Kumar was better at raw, emotional outbursts than polished dialogue delivery. So he started writing scenes where Sarath’s character would explode mid-sentence — that became Sarath’s trademark style in later films.
• I Love India (1993) was the first Tamil film to shoot extensively in the US with a local crew. Pavithran and Sarath Kumar together convinced the producers to spend extra on real American locations — and that film opened the door for other Tamil heroes to shoot abroad.
• After Indhu (1994) flopped, Pavithran and Sarath Kumar didn't speak for nearly a decade. Sarath later admitted in a 2005 interview that he blamed Pavithran for the failure, but they patched up when they ran into each other at a wedding.
• Pavithran once said: 'Sarath was the only actor who would call me at 2 AM to discuss a single line of dialogue. He cared that much. But after Indhu, he stopped calling.'
