Trivia
- The film's title 'Suriyan' was also the name of a popular Tamil comic book hero, which helped attract audiences.
- Director Pavithran originally planned to cast a bigger star, but chose Sarathkumar after being impressed by his earlier action roles.
- The mountain town scenes were shot in Top Slip, a real-life location in the Anaimalai Hills, rarely used in Tamil cinema at the time.
- The movie's climax features a dramatic fight on a moving bus, a stunt sequence that was considered risky and innovative for 1992.
- Suriyan's soundtrack, composed by Ilaiyaraaja, included a folk-inspired song 'Kadhal Mayakam' that became a hit in rural areas.
- The film underperformed at the box office initially but later gained a cult following through television reruns in the late 1990s.
- A subplot involving Suriyan's forced marriage was partly inspired by a real-life news story about a stranded man marrying a local woman.
