• Manivasagam cast Sarath Kumar in 'Vaidehi Kalyanam' (1991) after seeing him in a small role in another film. He bet on Sarath's raw screen presence when bigger names had passed on the script.
• In 'Kattabomman' (1993), Manivasagam wrote the climax specifically around Sarath Kumar's ability to deliver long, single-take emotional monologues. Sarath would rehearse the scene 15-20 times before the camera rolled, and Manivasagam never cut away mid-speech.
