• Vignesh and Charlie first teamed up for Pongalo Pongal (1997) because the producer needed a quick replacement after the original lead dropped out. Charlie was a last-minute call, and Vignesh had never worked with a comedian as the main pair before.
• In Raman Abdullah (1997), Charlie’s physical comedy forced Vignesh to slow down his usual rapid-fire dialogue delivery. Vignesh later admitted that Charlie’s timing taught him to let silence land a joke — something he never did in his earlier films.
• Velai (1998) was so poorly received that it killed both their chances of working with major studios for the next two years. The film’s failure directly led to Vignesh shifting to television serials and Charlie returning to stage comedy.
• During the shoot of Pongalo Pongal, Charlie would cook biryani for the entire crew every Sunday. Vignesh later said that ritual was the only reason they finished the film on time — the crew refused to leave until they ate.
• Vignesh once told a Chennai radio station: 'Charlie was the only co-star who would rewrite my lines on set without asking. And he was always right. I hated it, but he was right.'
