• Viswanathan was a veteran character actor who had been in the industry since the 1950s. Charlie was a young comedian just breaking through. They first shared screen space in 'Inaindha Kaigal' (1990) because director R. C. Sakthi needed a pair who could play off each other's energy — one stoic, one manic.
• In 'Nadodi Pattukkaran' (1992), Viswanathan would deliberately slow down his dialogue delivery to give Charlie space to land his punchlines. Charlie later said in an interview that Viswanathan 'never stole a laugh' — he set the rhythm so Charlie could finish the joke.
• During the shoot of 'Varrar Chandiyar' (1995), Viswanathan would bring homemade snacks to the set every day. Charlie would share them with the junior artists. The unit called them 'appa and son' even though they weren't related.
• Charlie once told a magazine: 'Viswanathan sir taught me that comedy is not about shouting. He would just raise an eyebrow and the whole theatre would laugh. I learned timing from watching him.'
• Their comic track in 'Nadodi Pattukkaran' was so popular that it inspired a wave of 'odd couple' comedy duos in Tamil cinema in the mid-90s — older serious man paired with a young hyperactive comedian. You can see the template in later films like 'Ullathai Allitha'.
