• For Nandha (2001), director Bala cast Karunas as a comedian after seeing him in a stage play. But Karunas was so nervous acting opposite Rajkiran — a massive star then — that he kept flubbing his lines. Rajkiran pulled him aside and said, 'Just be yourself. I'm not going to eat you.' That broke the ice.
• In Komban (2015), Rajkiran played the fierce father, Karunas the loyal sidekick. But here's the trick: Rajkiran deliberately slowed down his dialogue delivery in their scenes together. He told Karunas, 'You talk fast, I'll talk slow — the contrast will make both of us look sharper.' It worked.
• Between Nandha (2001) and Komban (2015), they didn't speak for nearly a decade. No fight — just drifted apart. Then Rajkiran called Karunas out of the blue in 2014: 'I'm doing a film with a young director. Come. No script, just trust me.' Karunas showed up the next day. That film was Komban.
