• Jiiva was already a known face when he signed Pori (2007), but Karunas was still finding his footing as a lead. The director S. J. Sinu actually cast Karunas first, then asked him to suggest a co-star. Karunas picked Jiiva because he thought they'd look like 'real friends' on screen.
• In Rameswaram (2007), Karunas played the loud, impulsive friend while Jiiva was the quieter, brooding one. Karunas later said in an interview that Jiiva would deliberately slow down his dialogue delivery so Karunas could get the comic timing right — they paced each other instead of competing.
• During the shoot of Thirunaal (2016), Karunas and Jiiva shared a room in a small lodge near Tenkasi for three weeks. They'd cook instant noodles together at midnight and rehearse scenes in their lungis. No other co-star from either of their careers has done that.
• Jiiva once told a Tamil magazine: 'Karunas is the only actor I can sit with and not say a word for two hours. We don't need to act like friends — we just are.'
• Their pairing in Pori (2007) directly inspired director S. J. Sinu to cast them again in Rameswaram the same year — making them one of the rare Tamil duos to release two films together in a single calendar year.
