• Director K. Balachander cast Nagesh and Sreekanth together for the first time in 'Engal Thai' (1973) because he wanted two actors who could switch between comedy and pathos without missing a beat. He later said he picked them specifically to see who would blink first in a serious scene.
• In 'Sila Nerangalil Sila Manithargal' (1976), Nagesh and Sreekanth played brothers with opposing moral codes. Nagesh would deliberately underplay his lines in rehearsal so Sreekanth would raise his intensity — then Nagesh would flip to full emotional throttle during the actual take, catching Sreekanth off guard and making his reactions more raw.
• During the shoot of 'Komatha En Kulamatha' (1973), Nagesh and Sreekanth shared a room in a small lodge in Tenkasi. Every night, Nagesh would rehearse his lines aloud while Sreekanth slept — Sreekanth later admitted he learned his own dialogue by hearing Nagesh say them in his sleep.
• The success of 'Ilaya Thalaimurai' (1977) directly led to director C. V. Sridhar casting both actors again in 'Oru Nadigai Nadagam Paarkiral' (1978) — but this time as rivals for the same woman. That film's tension between them became a template for later Tamil films about two friends torn apart by love.
• Sreekanth once told a magazine: 'Nagesh would finish his dialogue, then look at me with those eyes — and I would forget my own lines. He didn't act. He just became the character, and I had to run to catch up.'
• After 'Oru Nadigai Nadagam Paarkiral' (1978), Nagesh and Sreekanth never worked together again. No fight, no fallout — Sreekanth simply moved to character roles in the 80s, and Nagesh focused on comedy. But Sreekanth visited Nagesh in the hospital during his final illness in 2009, and reportedly sat with him for three hours without speaking.
