• They first met on the sets of 'Star' (1982) when both were newcomers. Kumar Gaurav was already a star kid (son of Rajendra Kumar), but Rati Agnihotri had just arrived from the South. The director, Deepak Bahry, paired them specifically to create a fresh, young romantic image — and it worked.
• In 'All Rounder' (1984), Rati played a feisty journalist while Kumar played a struggling musician. The film's comedy came from their verbal sparring — Rati set the pace with sharp dialogue delivery, and Kumar matched her by underplaying his reactions. That push-and-pull became their signature.
• Off-screen, they were close friends but never romantically linked. Rati once said in an interview that Kumar was like a 'protective elder brother' on set, especially during the early days when she was still learning Hindi.
• Their film 'Ek Se Bhale Do' (1985) was a rare double-role comedy where Kumar played twins. The film's success inspired a wave of twin-role comedies in the late 80s, including 'ChaalBaaz' and 'Kishen Kanhaiya'.
• Rati Agnihotri once said about Kumar Gaurav: 'He was the only co-star who would rehearse scenes with me at home before we shot. He made me feel confident when I was nervous.'
• Their last film together, 'Kaante' (2002), was a reunion after 15 years. Both had aged out of romantic leads — Kumar played a supporting role, Rati played a mother. They reportedly pushed for each other's casting because they wanted to work together one last time.
