• In Shaukeen (1982), Ashok Kumar was 70 and Rati Agnihotri was 21. The director Basu Chatterjee deliberately paired them to play a lecherous old man chasing a young woman — and the age gap made the comedy land harder.
• Ashok Kumar taught Rati how to time a pause for laughs on the set of Shaukeen. She later said he would stop mid-dialogue and wait for her reaction — forcing her to stay in the moment instead of rushing her lines.
• Rati called Ashok Kumar 'Dadamoni' (elder brother) off-screen. He was 49 years older than her, and she later said he treated her like a granddaughter — bringing her homemade sweets to the sets of Sumbandh (1982).
• Rati Agnihotri once said: 'Ashok Kumar was the only co-star who could make me forget the camera. He didn't act — he just lived the scene, and I had to keep up.'
• Their pairing in Tawaif (1985) was the last time Ashok Kumar played a romantic lead opposite a much younger heroine. After this film, he shifted entirely to character roles — partly because the age-gap jokes were starting to feel uncomfortable.
