• Om Puri was the one who pushed Shah Rukh to take on the dark, complex role of Amjad Ali Khan in Hey Ram (2000). SRK was hesitant — the character was a Muslim man accused of assassinating Gandhi. Puri told him, 'If you don't do this, you'll regret it.'
• In Billu (2009), Om Puri played a small-town cop who bullies Shah Rukh's character. On set, Puri deliberately stayed in character between takes — he wouldn't even smile at SRK. Shah Rukh later said that Puri's 'cold silence' made his own performance as the meek barber more real.
• During the shoot of Don 2 (2011), Om Puri would sit with Shah Rukh in his vanity van between shots and discuss politics — not films. Puri was a committed leftist, SRK was famously apolitical. They'd argue for hours, then walk out laughing. Puri's wife later said those debates were the only time she saw Om genuinely engaged with a co-star off-camera.
