• In Enakkul Oruvan (1984), Sathyaraj and Shobana played a couple whose on-screen chemistry was so raw that the film's climax — where he slaps her — sparked debates in Tamil households about how far a hero can go. That scene still gets discussed in film forums today.
• Mallu Vetti Minor (1990) was the only film where Sathyaraj and Shobana shared equal screen time as a romantic pair — but it bombed at the box office, collecting less than ₹15 lakh in its opening week in Chennai. They never worked together again after that.
• Vaathiyaar Veettu Pillai (1989) was a turning point for both: it was Shobana's first Tamil film after her National Award win for Manichitrathazhu (Malayalam), and Sathyaraj's first commercial hit after a string of flops. The film ran for 100 days in 12 centres across Tamil Nadu.
• In a 1991 interview with Ananda Vikatan, Sathyaraj said about Shobana: 'She was the only actress who could make me forget my lines on set. Her eyes did all the talking.' He was referring to their scenes in Enakkul Oruvan.
• The song 'Aathangara Marame' from Enakkul Oruvan (1984) — picturised on Sathyaraj and Shobana — became a wedding-season staple in Tamil Nadu. Even today, it's played at village receptions, and the couple's playful banter in the song is mimicked by grooms and brides.
• Their first film together, Enakkul Oruvan (1984), was shot in just 28 days — a record for a Tamil film with a double role (Sathyaraj played twins). Shobana had to shoot her scenes in two separate schedules because she was simultaneously filming a Malayalam movie.
