Partnership facts

• They first shared screen space in 'Panam Pathum Seyyum' (1985) only because the director needed a quick comic relief scene. Neither expected it to click. But the audience reaction was so loud that the director added more scenes for them mid-shoot.
• In 'Naan Peththa Magane' (1995), Goundamani would deliberately flub his lines to make Urvashi break character. She'd then retaliate by changing her dialogue on the spot. The final take was always a mix of both their improvisations — the director just kept the camera rolling.
• During 'Ayudha Poojai' (1995), Urvashi cooked Goundamani's favourite kozhukattai every single day of the shoot. He never thanked her once — but he also never ate anyone else's lunch on set.
• Their comic timing in 'Ayudha Poojai' directly inspired the writing of the 'Goundamani-Urvashi style' banter in the 2000s TV serial 'Chithi' — the writers admitted they were trying to bottle that same energy for the small screen.
• Urvashi once said in a 2016 interview: 'Goundamani sir never rehearses with me. He says if we practice, the magic dies. So we just walk in and fight on screen like real siblings — that's why it feels real.'
• In 'Vaaimai' (2016), their first film together in 21 years, Goundamani insisted on shooting their scenes in one continuous take. Urvashi had to match his rhythm without any cuts — she later said it was like riding a bicycle after decades.
