• Ilavarasi was a rising star when she was paired with newcomer Pandian in 'Sirai' (1984). Director R. Selvaraj actually cast her first, then specifically requested Pandian as her co-star after seeing his raw intensity in a stage play — he wanted someone who could match her emotional range, not just stand next to her.
• In 'Mannukkeetha Ponnu' (1985), Pandian deliberately slowed down his dialogue delivery to match Ilavarasi's natural rhythm. He later told a magazine that she had a way of 'listening with her eyes' during scenes, so he learned to pause and let her reactions breathe — that film became their most emotionally grounded work together.
