• Hari was initially hesitant to cast Suriya in 'Aaru' (2005) because he thought the actor was too 'soft' for the raw, violent role. Suriya convinced him by showing up to the narration with a shaved head and a new, intense body language — no audition, just a look.
• On the sets of 'Vel' (2007), Hari would block the action scenes first, then Suriya would rework the emotional beats between punches. The result? A mass hero film where the villain's death actually makes you feel something — rare for that era.
• The 'Singam' franchise (2010–2017) single-handedly revived the 'mass cop' genre in Tamil cinema. Before Suriya's Durai Singam, the last big police officer hit was Kamal Haasan's 'Vikram' (1986). After 'Singam', every other star rushed to wear khaki — including Vijay in 'Thuppakki' and Ajith in 'Veeram'.
• Hari and Suriya have a standing rule: no phone calls during a shoot. They communicate only through handwritten notes on set. Suriya once said in a behind-the-scenes interview that this started because Hari lost his phone in a river during 'Aaru' and they just never went back to texting.
