• Manobala was initially hesitant to cast Bava Lakshmanan in Thirappu Vizha (2018). Lakshmanan sent him a 3-minute video audition shot on a phone in his backyard. Manobala watched it twice and called him back within an hour.
• On the set of Ayya Ullen Ayya (2020), Manobala would rewrite dialogues in the morning based on how Lakshmanan had delivered them the previous day. Lakshmanan’s natural comic timing made Manobala shift the film’s tone from serious to lighthearted mid-shoot.
• The success of Thirappu Vizha (2018) directly led to a small-budget comedy trend in Kumbakonam-based productions. At least three other directors in 2019 cited this film as their reason for casting local theatre actors instead of established comedians.
• Manobala and Lakshmanan had a standing rule: no phone calls after 9 PM. But during Rayar Parambarai (2023) post-production, they broke it every night for two weeks — Manobala would call to read a new line, and Lakshmanan would record it on his phone and send it back.
• Bava Lakshmanan said in a 2023 interview: 'Manobala sir never told me I was funny. He just kept giving me more scenes. That’s how I knew I was doing something right.'
