Partnership facts

• Arjun and Raja first teamed up for Sondhakkaran (1989) because the original lead dropped out last minute. Raja, then a rising director, called Arjun at 2 AM. Arjun said yes without reading the script.
• On the sets of Vettayadu Vilayadu (1989), Raja would write dialogues in the morning and hand them to Arjun on set. Arjun would memorize them in one take and then suggest punchline tweaks. That back-and-forth became their rhythm for all four films.
• Thuruva Natchathiram (1993) was the first Tamil film where Arjun played a double role. Raja insisted on it after seeing Arjun's comic timing in their earlier films. That double role later inspired Arjun to produce his own multi-role film, Mudhalvan (1999).
• During Ayudha Poojai (1995), Arjun and Raja had a falling out over a scheduling clash. They didn't speak for six months after the film wrapped. They reconciled only in 2010 at a mutual friend's wedding.
• Raja once said in a 1996 interview: 'Arjun is the only actor who can make my bad lines look good. I wrote nonsense for him in Sondhakkaran, and he made it sound like poetry.'
