Partnership facts

• For Pori (2007), director S. J. Surya was looking for a fresh pair. He cast Jiiva and Jagan together because he wanted two actors who could bounce off each other like real college friends. Neither had headlined a film before.
• In Ko (2011), Jagan played the comic sidekick while Jiiva was the serious photojournalist. Jagan improvised most of his punchlines on set, and Jiiva would adjust his timing to match. Director K. V. Anand said they worked like a 'comedy relay' — one sets up, the other finishes.
• Jiiva and Jagan have been close friends since their college days in Chennai. They used to hang out at the same tea stall in T. Nagar before either had a film offer. Jagan once said they 'grew up in the same lane, just different houses.'
• Jagan on working with Jiiva: 'He doesn't let me be lazy. If I give a half-baked expression, he'll stop the scene and say, 'Bro, that's not it.' He pushes me to be better.' — Interview with The Hindu, 2013.
• The success of Ko (2011) directly led to Jiiva and Jagan being offered a joint endorsement deal for a soft drink brand in 2012. It was the first time a Tamil film duo — not a solo star — got a national ad campaign together.
• For Endrendrum Punnagai (2013), the producer wanted a bigger star for Jiiva's role. Jagan personally convinced the director to keep Jiiva, saying, 'If he's not in it, I'm not in it.' The film went ahead with both.
