• During Meendum Kokila (1981), Deepa was pregnant and had severe morning sickness. Kamal would bring her homemade ginger tea from his own kitchen every morning before shoot. She later called him 'the most thoughtful co-star I ever had' in a 1990s interview.
• Kamal Haasan was just 21 when he signed Andharangam (1975) with Deepa, who was already a known face. He later said he was nervous acting opposite someone more experienced, but she calmed him down by cracking jokes between takes.
• In Ullasa Paravaigal (1980), Deepa’s character was written as a bubbly chatterbox, but Kamal kept improvising long monologues. The director had to tell Deepa to interrupt him mid-sentence — that natural overlap became the film’s signature comic rhythm.
• Meendum Kokila (1981) was the first Tamil film where the female lead’s voice-over narration drove the entire plot. Deepa’s performance inspired a wave of 'heroine-centric' voice-over films in the early 80s, including a direct remake in Telugu.
• Kamal once said about Deepa: 'She made me look good in scenes where I had no business looking good. She gave me the pause, the reaction, the silence.' He said this in a 1982 film magazine interview.
• Andharangam (1975) almost didn’t happen because Deepa’s mother thought Kamal was 'too young and too skinny' to be her daughter’s romantic lead. Kamal personally visited their home with a script copy and convinced her by reading a scene aloud.
