• Kamal Haasan personally chose Rupini for Apoorva Sagodharargal after seeing her in a Malayalam film. He was convinced she could pull off the double role opposite his character — and she was only 16 at the time.
• In Michael Madana Kama Rajan, Rupini played opposite three of Kamal's four characters. She had to adjust her performance for each version of him — softer with the shy one, sharper with the arrogant one. Kamal later said she made his job easier by never mixing up which 'brother' she was reacting to.
• Rupini has said in interviews that Kamal treated her like a younger sister on set. He would check in on her between shots, make sure she was comfortable, and even rehearse scenes with her privately before the director arrived.
• Their pairing in Apoorva Sagodharargal directly led to the Hindi remake Appu Raja — which also starred Rupini opposite Kamal. That remake became a hit in North India, introducing Rupini to a whole new audience outside Tamil cinema.
• Rupini once said: 'Kamal sir taught me how to react to a character who isn't there. In Apoorva Sagodharargal, I had to act opposite a dwarf version of him that was added later. He would stand on a box and act out the dwarf's movements so I had something real to look at.'
• In all three films, Rupini played the romantic interest — but Kamal never let her be just a 'heroine'. He insisted she get equal screen time in comedy sequences, especially in Michael Madana Kama Rajan, where her timing in the 'four brothers' confusion scene is still studied by comedy actors.
