He received the Kalamamani Award for Best Writer in 1985 and won the Nandhi Award for five Telugu films, with notable acting roles in Seethakathi (2018) directed by Vijay Sethupathi and 180 (2011) directed by Jayendra Panchapakesan. The son of Harikatha exponent T. S. Balakrishna Sastrigal, Mouli has also written and directed 21 Tamil films and 24 Telugu films, demonstrating a career that spans both performance and filmmaking.
