Partnership facts

• Singampuli and Kovai Sarala first shared screen space in Ragalaipuram (2013) because the director needed a pair who could switch between slapstick and sentiment without missing a beat. He cast them as a married couple after seeing their individual comic timing — but neither had worked opposite a pure comedian before.
• In Jeyikkira Kuthira (2017), Singampuli would deliberately flub his lines to make Kovai Sarala break character. She'd then improvise a comeback that the director kept in the final cut. That ping-pong rhythm — him setting the trap, her escaping it — became their signature.
• Their pairing in Pei Mama (2021) was so unexpectedly funny that it directly inspired the comedy track in Aranmanai 4 (2024). Director Sundar C saw their test footage and rewrote the entire subplot to give them more scenes together — turning a 4.3-rated film into a blockbuster sequel's secret weapon.
• On the sets of all four films, Singampuli and Kovai Sarala had a running bet: whoever laughed first during a take had to buy the other a box of Mysore pak. Sarala claims she still owes him three boxes because he never broke once.
