• V. K. Ramasamy was already a veteran character actor when he was cast opposite newcomer Manjula in En Magan (1973). He reportedly told the director he'd do the film only if Manjula's role was written with more spine — he didn't want to act opposite a 'wallflower'.
• In Avan Oru Sarithiram (1976), Ramasamy deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery in their confrontation scene to match Manjula's natural rhythm. She later said he 'taught me how to listen on screen' — the scene became a masterclass in reactive acting.
• After Utthaman (1976) wrapped, Ramasamy gifted Manjula a gold chain with a tiny 'VK' pendant. She wore it in every film they made together after that — including Vetri Karangal (1991), 15 years later.
• The success of their pairing in Avan Oru Sarithiram (1976) directly led to director S. P. Muthuraman casting them again in Utthaman (1976) — and that film's father-daughter dynamic later inspired the template for Muthuraman's own blockbuster 'Ninaithale Inikkum' (1979).
