• Director Manobala cast Ramki and Gouthami together for the first time in Pennbuthi Pin Buthi (1989) because he wanted a fresh pair that looked like they could actually be college students — both were barely out of their teens.
• In Vaazhnthu Kaattuvom (1990), Gouthami’s character was the emotional anchor while Ramki’s was the impulsive one — and they reportedly shot the climax in one take because both were so locked into each other’s rhythm that the director didn’t want to break it.
• Athma (1993) was the first Tamil film to use a reincarnation plot where the female lead remembers her past life — a template that later films like Magalir Mattum and Chandramukhi would borrow from. Gouthami and Ramki’s emotional confrontation scene in that film is still clipped on YouTube by fans.
