• Muthaiah was a debut director when he cast G. Gnanasambandam as the villain in Kutti Puli (2013). The actor was already a familiar face in character roles, but Muthaiah bet on him to anchor the film's conflict — and that gamble turned Kutti Puli into a sleeper hit.
• On the sets of Komban (2015), Muthaiah would let Gnanasambandam rewrite his own dialogue in the local dialect. The actor's ear for village slang gave the villain a raw, unpredictable edge — something the director admitted he couldn't script himself.
• The success of their first two films directly launched Muthaiah's signature 'village action hero' brand. Without Gnanasambandam's menacing presence in Kutti Puli and Komban, the director might never have gotten the green light for Marudhu (2016) — which then became a template for later rural mass movies in Tamil cinema.
• Gnanasambandam was the only actor Muthaiah called 'anna' (elder brother) on set. The director once said in an interview that the actor would sit with him through entire night shoots, even when his scenes were done, just to give feedback on other performances.
• Muthaiah told a local magazine after Komban: 'Gnanasambandam doesn't act — he becomes the character. I just had to point the camera at him.'
