• Muthaiah was a stunt choreographer before he turned director. He cast M. Muthaiah (no relation) as the lead in Kutti Puli (2013) because he wanted a raw, real fighter — not a polished star. The actor had to prove he could do his own stunts in the first audition.
• On the sets of Komban (2015), Muthaiah would block the action sequences first, then let M. Muthaiah improvise the dialogue in between punches. The actor’s natural timing turned those gaps into the film’s most quoted lines.
• Their third film Marudhu (2016) directly launched the career of actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar — she got her big break because Muthaiah insisted on casting her after seeing her in a stage play, and M. Muthaiah backed the choice despite producer doubts.
• During the shoot of Kutti Puli, Muthaiah and M. Muthaiah shared a small room in a lodge near Tenkasi for three months. They cooked their own meals and rehearsed scenes at night — no crew, no assistants.
• M. Muthaiah once told a local magazine: 'He (Muthaiah) doesn't let me act. He makes me live the character. I don't sleep well before his films because I'm too scared to disappoint him.'
