• Puneet Issar and Hemant Birje first shared screen space in Tahkhana (1986) because both were cast as the muscle in a horror-action hybrid — Issar played the monster, Birje played the hero. The director wanted two physically imposing newcomers who could actually fight, not just pose.
• In Muqaddar (1996), Issar played the villain and Birje the hero — but they swapped roles for the climax fight. Issar later said Birje insisted on letting him land the real punches because 'a villain's hits have to look brutal.' That fight scene is the only reason anyone remembers the film.
• By the time Sher-E-Hindustan (1997) released, Issar and Birje had stopped talking. Birje felt Issar's character got more screen time despite being the villain. They didn't speak for nearly a decade after that film flopped.
• Hemant Birje once told a trade magazine: 'Puneet and I never rehearsed. We just looked at each other and knew who would throw the first punch. That's why our fights looked real — because half the time, they were.'
• The only reason these two worked together three times is that both were regulars at the same gym in Andheri. A producer saw them sparring there and cast them together in Tahkhana. That gym session directly created their entire on-screen partnership.
