• Naseeruddin Shah was already a National Award-winning actor when he signed Tridev (1989), but he took the role of a slick, trigger-happy gangster only because Sonam was cast as his love interest. He told the director he wanted to work with someone who could match his intensity in a romantic track — and Sonam, then a newcomer, got the part.
• On the sets of Chor Pe Mor (1990), Naseer would deliberately flub his lines in the first take to make Sonam laugh. She later said that his goofing around actually helped her relax — she was terrified of acting opposite a legend, and his pranks broke the ice so she could deliver her comic timing naturally.
• The song 'Gali Gali Mein' from Tridev (1989) became a nationwide hit partly because of the on-screen pairing of Sonam and Naseer. Their chemistry in that song directly inspired the romantic track 'Tu Mujhe Suna' in the 1994 film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa — the director admitted he wanted the same playful tension between the leads.
• During the shoot of Vishwatma (1992), Naseer would drive Sonam home every night after pack-up. She was living alone in Mumbai for the first time, and he made it a point to ensure she reached safely — even if it meant a 45-minute detour. They never spoke about it publicly.
• Sonam once said in a 1993 interview: 'Naseer sir taught me that acting is not about shouting louder than the other person. In Vishwatma, he whispered his lines to me during a fight scene, and I had to lean in — that's when I understood what screen presence really means.'
