• Naseeruddin Shah was the one who suggested Vidya Balan for the role of Krishna in Ishqiya. Director Abhishek Chaubey had initially thought of someone older, but Naseer insisted she had the right mix of innocence and mischief.
• On the sets of Ishqiya, Naseer would deliberately throw Vidya off her lines during rehearsals. He told her it was to prepare her for the unpredictability of live performance. She later said it made her sharper and more spontaneous.
• Vidya Balan said about Naseer: 'He doesn't act with you, he acts at you. You have to be on your toes or he'll eat you alive. But that's the best acting school I ever had.'
• During The Dirty Picture, Naseer would sit with Vidya between takes and read out passages from Marathi literature. He was trying to get her to relax into the character's earthy, unpolished side. She later credited those sessions for her performance.
• The success of Ishqiya directly led to the casting of Vidya in The Dirty Picture. Director Milan Luthria saw her raw, sexual energy in Ishqiya and decided she was the only one who could play Silk. Naseer's push for her in Ishqiya indirectly launched her biggest blockbuster.
• In Begum Jaan, Naseer and Vidya barely shared screen time — he played a British officer, she ran a brothel. But off-camera, he would rehearse her lines with her in character, playing the opposite role. She said it helped her find the anger in her scenes with other actors.
