• Kanti Shah cast Ishrat Ali in 'Rani Aur Maharani' (1993) after seeing him play a menacing side role in a B-grade action film. Shah later said he needed someone who could look scary without speaking — and Ali barely had any dialogue in that first film.
• On the set of 'Veer' (1995), Ishrat Ali would deliberately slow down his delivery to throw off Kanti Shah's rhythm. Shah told a trade magazine that Ali's unpredictable pauses forced him to stay alert — and that's why their fight scenes felt more real than rehearsed.
