• Soori was still a struggling comedian when G. Marimuthu cast him in Pulivaal (2014). Marimuthu had seen Soori's bit roles and bet on him for a full-length comic role — that film became the first time Soori got noticed as more than just a sidekick.
• In Sanga Thamizhan (2019), Marimuthu wrote a role that let Soori play a village simpleton with real pathos — not just for laughs. Soori later said Marimuthu was the first director who made him cry on screen.
• Marimuthu and Soori are close friends off-screen. Soori has said Marimuthu is the only director who calls him just to check if he's eating well, not to discuss work.
