• Anil Kapoor was a relative newcomer when he was cast opposite Smita Patil in Shakti (1982). He later admitted he was terrified acting opposite her — she was already a legend. He said she deliberately slowed down her delivery in their scenes together so he wouldn't look out of his depth.
• In Thikana (1987), Smita Patil played a blind woman. Anil Kapoor would physically guide her through every scene off-camera — holding her elbow, whispering where furniture was — so she could act blind without actually bumping into things. He did this even when the camera wasn't on him.
• After Shakti released, Smita Patil personally recommended Anil Kapoor to director Ramesh Talwar for a role in a different film. Talwar later said she called him and said, 'That boy has fire. Give him a chance.' Anil got the part.
• Anil Kapoor once said about Smita Patil: 'She didn't act. She just became the character. I learned more from her in those three films than from any acting school.' He said this in a 2017 interview on the sets of a TV show.
• The only reason Aap Ke Saath (1986) exists is because Smita Patil insisted on working with Anil Kapoor again after Shakti. The producer originally wanted a bigger star. She refused to sign unless Anil was cast opposite her. He got the role because of her demand.
