• Ajay Devgn personally recommended Emraan Hashmi for the role of Shoaib in Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010). The director Milan Luthria had initially considered other actors, but Ajay insisted Emraan had the right 'soulful menace' for the part.
• In Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Ajay played the restrained, brooding don while Emraan played the impulsive, emotional protégé. Emraan has said that Ajay's stillness on set forced him to bring more energy and unpredictability to their scenes together — making their conflict feel real.
