• Vinay Pathak and Shashant Shah first met on the sets of a TV show called 'Office Office' in the early 2000s. Shah was an assistant director; Pathak was a struggling actor. They bonded over their shared love for absurd comedy and decided to make a film together. That film became 'Dasvidaniya'.
• On 'Chalo Dilli', Shah deliberately kept the script loose. He told Pathak to improvise every single scene with Lara Dutta. Pathak would throw in random lines about trains and chai; Shah would keep the camera rolling. The final film has over 40 minutes of unscripted dialogue between the two leads.
• The success of 'Dasvidaniya' (2008) directly led to the casting of Vinay Pathak in 'Bheja Fry 2' (2011). The producers saw how Pathak carried a solo-lead film on his shoulders and greenlit the sequel. Without Shah trusting Pathak with that role, the entire 'Bheja Fry' franchise might have looked different.
• During the making of 'Bajatey Raho', Shah and Pathak had a falling out over the film's tone. Shah wanted a darker satire; Pathak pushed for a lighter comedy. They didn't speak for three months after the shoot wrapped. They reconciled only in 2016 at a mutual friend's wedding.
• Shashant Shah once said about Vinay Pathak: 'He is the only actor I know who can make a phone book sound funny. On 'Dasvidaniya', he would rewrite his lines in the bathroom mirror and come out with something completely new. I stopped writing dialogues for him after the first week.'
