Partnership facts

• Suresh was a newcomer when he signed Agaya Thamaraigal (1985). S. S. Chandran, already a veteran character actor, personally requested the director to cast him opposite the lead — he saw raw potential in Suresh and wanted to share screen space with fresh energy.
• In Mounam Kalaikirathu (1986), Chandran deliberately slowed down his dialogue delivery in every scene with Suresh. He told the director it would force Suresh to react with his eyes, not his mouth — and that became the film's most praised performance trait.
• During the shoot of En Veedu En Kanavar (1990), Suresh and Chandran shared a room in a small lodge near the set. Every night, Chandran would make Suresh rehearse the next day's scene by acting it out in full costume — even if it was just a two-line exchange.
• Suresh once said in a 1991 interview: 'Chandran sir taught me that acting is not about speaking — it's about listening. In our three films together, I learned more from his silences than from any dialogue.'
• The success of Mounam Kalaikirathu (1986) directly led to a wave of 'silent conflict' dramas in Tamil cinema — at least four films in the next two years copied its core setup of two men communicating through long pauses and stares.
