Partnership facts

• Suresh and Jeevitha were paired together for the first time in 'Hello Yaar Pesaradhu?' (1985) because the director, K. Bhagyaraj, wanted a fresh-looking couple. He cast them both as newcomers — neither had a major hit before that film.
• In 'Mounam Kalaikirathu' (1986), Suresh played a deaf-mute character, and Jeevitha had to carry most of the dialogue. She later said in an interview that she had to slow down her natural speech rhythm so his silence wouldn't feel awkward — she essentially set the emotional pace for both of them.
• During the shoot of 'Selvi' (1985), Suresh and Jeevitha developed a close friendship. They would rehearse scenes together at her house in the evenings, often without the director present. This was unusual for Tamil cinema at the time, where co-stars rarely met outside sets.
• Their fourth and final film together, 'Appirakkavil Appu' (1986), was a remake of a Malayalam hit. But because of their pairing, the Tamil version became a template for the 'city boy meets village girl' trope that several Tamil films copied in the late 80s.
• Jeevitha once told a magazine: 'Suresh never tried to dominate a scene. He would let me take the lead if the character needed it. That's rare in a male co-star.'
